What We’re Up To

The IgKnighters are a well-established and successful First Robotics Competition (FRC) team with more than a decade of experience.  We meet year round with competitions in March, April, June and October.  During the Summer we learn new skills and experiment with new designs and manufacturing techniques.

FRC Team 3173 is comprised of students from McQuaid Jesuit, other local area high schools that don’t sponsor FRC teams as well as homeschooled students from the surrounding area.  No other FRC team in the Rochester area supports such a diverse team with members from a variety of schools and learning environments.

Summer 2023 to March 2024

  • Third place Alliance finish

FIRST LEGO League Finger Lakes Qualifier, December 16, 2023

McQuaid Jesuit HS, Rochester NY

  • Event held at McQuaid Jesuit High School

  • Largest FLL Qualifier in Rochester area – 16 teams participated

  • McQuaid’s Team “Builder Boys” won the Innovation Award and advance to the regional tournament.

  • Robot demonstrations 

  • Increased awareness of STEM and FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)

Penfield Ra Cha Cha Ruckus , October 21, 2023 ,

  • Placed Second.

  • Ghostbusters award.  Best defensive robot

Summer 2023 Project - Citrus Circus Robot 9993

  • Reverse engineered a 2023 FIRST FRC Einstein finalist robot

  • Learned new design concepts and manufacturing techniques

  • Built a competition winning robot

Sponsored New Lego League Team , Nazareth Elementary , Rochester, NY

  • IgKnighter students coached and collaborated with 10 students who were new to robotics.

  • Nazareth’s team won the Core Values award at McQuaid’s December FLL Qualifying Tournament
